| Headley Down is an area of high Heathland three miles east of Headley, flanked by the Ludshott Common on its easterly edge. Until the late nineteenth century it was relatively unpopulated owing to its poor sandy soil. However in the late 1870's the area became popular for its clear air and developed into a holiday retreat. From the 1960's onwards it has developed and is now an affluent suburb. As early as 1801 it was known on maps as Headley Down, but was not formally named Headley Down until 1923 when the Post Office declared that the official name of the Stone Hill Telephone Call office be called Headley Down.
